Tis the season...

Holiday Gift Guide Blog Post.png

In keeping with the holiday spirit, I thought it would be helpful to offer some suggestions on gifts that could help a loved one dealing with or recovering from illness.

  • Pharmacy Gift Card- Rising costs of prescription medications a lot of times make it extremely difficult for people to have the ability to afford their copays. Think retail pharmacies, i.e. CVS, RiteAid, Walgreens, Walmart, or wherever your loved one’s get their prescriptions from. Not sure, just casually ask them.

  • Uber/LYFT- The idea of asking people to get to and from appointments, shopping, banking needs for someone recovering or undergoing illness can feel very stressful. Why not gift a loved one a couple or rides via Uber or Lyft to get to their next doctor’s appointment? Perhaps there is a local car service in your loved one’s area that you can set up an account and coordinate transportation with.

  • Amazon- A one stop shop where someone can order just about everything to help them as they recover from illness. The idea of having to go to a big box store i.e. Costco, BJ’s, Walmart etc can be impossible because of mobility issues, offer them a gift card for Amazon. An added bonus if they have prime since they can order essential items with two day free shipping.

  •  Cleaning Service- The last thing a loved one wants to worry about is household chores. Offer a loved one a one time cleaning service, sites like Groupon has deals listed on their site often.

  • Groceries- Accessibility to food delivery options are endless, especially if you live in a metropolitan city. Think about offering a loved one an order to a grocery delivery service i.e. Peapod, Instacart, Fresh Direct

Remember these gifts don’t have to only be offered during the holidays since they can help someone who may be struggling anytime. Keep in mind that often people are afraid to ask others for assistance even though they may need it, so why not ask, is there anything I can do to help you with your recovery?
